how to find organic fruit & vegetables

I mentioned in the two-layer pumpkin pudding recipe that I used Riverford for our supply of pumpkins every year. I have been relying on Riverford to delivery my fruit and vegetables while we were in London. Every week when the reusable box filled with seasonal vegetables arrived, it was like receiving something from home (I grew up in sunny Devon); the carrots still covered in soil as if they have just come out of the ground.

It was carrots that ultimately won me over to Riverford on a purely taste level. Christopher and I had a taste test – their carrots tasted like carrots. I also like what Riverford is all about. Watch this beautiful slideshow produced by duckrabbit.

Now I am in Sydney and would love to find someone like Riverford. My usual route to finding a new supplier is asking friends for their recommendations but I’m new in the city. So after a good trawl through the web, there are a handful of veg box schemes which I have short-listed based value for money, locality, convenience and usability of their order process online. It’s a matter of trying and see how they fare.

I find that once you have something to compare, at least 2 to 3 suppliers, then the search is usually over. However I am still looking…so if you are in Sydney, let me know where you buy your fruit & veg.

Since you introduced me to Riverford many years ago, I am still a regular customer. The sweetness of fresh carrot and other vegetables will win over any one who dares to try. Many thanks to guy Watson and his staff.
